Coding is the “new” literacy

INSPIRING TAMARIKI, RANGATAHI & WHĀNAU TO CREATE, TRANSFORM, SHAPE & DEVELOP THEIR OWN DIGITAL TOOLS

Tamariki
Children

We believe in encouraging our tamariki to think creatively, work collaboratively, reason systematically and reflect Te Ao Māori. To show them that the can be creators, developers and producers of tech and not just consumers of it.

The Hour of Code
Is Back!

In the 2nd week of December, DNA will once again hold Hour of Code workshops to introduce children to computer science, to help demystify “code” and show them that anyone can learn the basics and be a maker, a creator, an innovator.

Rangatahi
Teenagers

We understand that young people use technology as an extension of themselves, our focus is to give them tools that will prepare them for a future where they create technology that reflects their tikanga (customs) and kawa (protocols).

WHAT'S OUR VISION

CodeIcon

Inspiring Tamariki, Rangatahi and Whānau to be Developers and Creators of Tech

dna – digital natives academy is a non-profit that sees Coding as the “new” literacy. We can’t wait until our whānau go to University, Wānanga or Polytech to be introduced to science and technology or take computer science courses. We need our young ones to start understanding the fundamentals of coding now, to build confidence and strategies that will help them solve complex problems.

dna – digital natives academy is made possible by a small community of creative innovators who want to learn, share, create, inspire change, encourage digital leadership and digital literacy while leveraging new digital opportunities around Aotearoa.

HDTamariki, Rangatahi and Whānau as Digital Architects

Our focus is on providing tools that will encourage tamariki, rangatahi and whānau to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically as a way to prepare them for increased opportunities in science and technology. The key to all this is building their confidence in STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, arts & maths) by providing them with fun and engaging activities.

Te whakatipu a nuku. Te whakatipu a rangi. Mauri ora koutou katoa. Kia u. Kia to. Kia matara.
